The Rooftop Patio Bar That Dreams Are Made Of

Mama Shelter.png

I never knew how much of a dream watching Grease on a rooftop while sitting on an oversized patio couch drinking rosé was of mine until I experienced Mama Shelter. An impressive looking building from the outside with a small and inviting corner entrance, it’s the perfect blend of global brand and local hang. Located in Hollywood, the hotel/restaurant/bar is positioned just close enough to the Hollywood touristy drag and just far enough to get the locals only feel with some great city views.

A several story building in Hollywood, it’s one of eleven hotels around the world and the only location in the states. With funky boutique hotel rooms filling up the space between the ground level bar restaurant to the rooftop restaurant and lounge. As you step off the elevator and round the corner to the rooftop bar, the vibe feels like you've just stepped into someone's insanely cool backyard. A large lounge area filled with Bohemian style, colorful yet chic couches, a bar to the left, and a gorgeous view of the Hollywood Hills awaits you on this dreamy rooftop bar.

If you're not in the mood to watch a Hollywood classic on the projector, there’s an actual foosball table that might just fulfill your high school backyard party dreams. COVID has most likely discontinued its use, but the view alone will ease the pain of losing it. The rooftop opens at noon Mon-Fri and 10:30am on the weekends for brunch service. You’ll find the usual Hollywood prices for drinks, (cocktails around $18, wine around $12 a glass) and normal bar food ranging from burgers, fish and chips, to charcuterie boards and a fancy 5 cheese mac n cheese. The ground level restaurant bar is closed due to COVID restrictions but the rooftop is open and no reservations are needed.
