A Highland Park Neighborhood Bar, Complete with Craft Beer and a Life Size Shuffleboard

COVID has messed with some of our favorite spots to hang but that doesn’t mean we can’t still reminisce of what it used to be and get excited about what it will return as. This applies to the Highland Park spot, Block Party, in which we love so much. It hadn’t taken long for this craft beer focused party spot to fit in with the rest of York Blvd's up and coming trendy spots. Jason Esiner, the man responsible for Gracias Madre and also winner of People’s Choice and Editor’s Choice for best bartender in 2014 LA Weekly and 2015 Eater, decided to branch out and start a bar of his own. Jason's goal in this endeavor? To create meaningful relationships within communities and a physical space for people to feel that their lives are celebrated.

At first sight, a very small, minimalist storefront invites you in but doesn't quite live up to the party spot it's claimed to be. It's not until you've walked through the bar to the back patio to see where the party starts. The space opens up to almost triple the size of the indoor bar area, with an life-sized shuffleboard court and communal style picnic tables lining the back wall providing plenty of sitting space. (If shuffleboard isn't your thing)

Craft and quality beers are served alongside wine and cocktails and some light food options. When fully open and functioning, the bar encourages you to BYOG, 'bring your own grub' from anywhere else and the happy hour is weekdays from 5-7 pm. Due to COVID restrictions, they are only offering take out and delivery cocktails, wine, and beer. The newly canned cocktails will have you salivating at the mouth with the branding alone, let alone the sweet deal of $6 for a single cocktail and $24 for a pack of 5. So until we can shuffleboard again, let’s float the Block Party crew with some cocktails to go.
