Hugos - The Angeleno's Guide for Healthy AND Delicious Food
When your diet is either vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free, it can be near impossible to find a restaurant that caters to your needs. Luckily, Hugo's in Valley Village has created the perfect menu to make dining out easy. From the outside, it is unassuming. Awnings cover the patio, and the inside is hardly visible from the street. This may be one reason it is a favorite spot for celebs like Miley Cyrus, Nick Jonas, and Minka Kelly.
I heard about this place from a friend, as she would not stop gushing about how everything on the menu was delicious, healthy, and fresh. I'm not one to gush over food, but I gave in and went just because she would not stop talking about it. After having gone, I will never doubt her again, because the food was amazing!
Hugo's prides itself in the fact that their menu is modular, so almost anything on the menu is available regular, vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free. I had the Cuban Sandwich with gluten-free flatbread and tofu, and I'm here to tell you I didn't feel more healthy and Cuban than in that moment I took my first bite. It was heavenly.
This establishment is everything an Angeleno stands for. It is earth-friendly, from their green and repurposed materials to their majorly non-GMO ingredients. They use all natural/antibiotic free meats. They also have a plant-based menu, and like to call themselves "veg-centric." Who doesn't love that word?
The atmosphere during the day is electric. Looking around while sipping my coffee, I could see that most people were there for some sort of meeting. All of the tables around us were talking agents, acting, careers, and business. Folk LA loves a good meet-up, and it seems this is a hot spot for cool people to talk business and hang out. Did I mention that I was definitely at a table next to Marlon Wayans? I will be making this a regular place, since it was obviously an instant favorite!
