Finding Sauteed Okra, Cornbread, and that Southern Hospitality in Venice.
Nothing can replace the feel of being in the South, with all it’s hospitality and great food. Los Angeles is a far cry from it, but every once in a while, a restaurant opens up that takes you out of the hostility of LA streets and right back to home, wherever that may be.
Baby Blues BBQ was the result of two Southern men moving to LA, missing their southern roots in food. After touring the states to find the best BBQ’s from all around the country, Baby Blues BBQ opened up in 2004, providing Venice a taste of Southern cooking.
The atmosphere is light hearted and casual and the decor looks like you have left LA and stepped right into a Texan diner. The regionally inspired menu features Memphis Ribs, Baby Back Ribs, a Texas-style Beef Brisket, and a North Carolina-style Pulled Pork that is slow-cooked in Guinness beer, served with an array of housemade sauces that hail from their travels. Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Collard Greens, and Blues on the Cob are a few of the many favorites that have made it onto the menu from their Southern past lives.
Their famous, award winning “fixins’ are the sides you’d never think to make for yourself at home, and are virtually nowhere to be found on any other LA menus. When’s the last time you saw Sauteed Okra and Cornbread on a menu in Venice?! It’s a great, casual place for a quick lunch or dinner with friends. From the delicious appetizers to their signature Banana Pudding, Baby Blues BBQ has all the comfort foods you want paired with the atmosphere that embodies Southern hospitality.
