Daikokuya
Popular hole in the wall.
Japanese, ramen.
With eternal sunshine and temperatures barely dropping below 70 degrees year round, ramen is not a thing you would associate Los Angeles with. Contrary to popular belief, ramen is in fact one of LA's noteworthy food groups. A quick google search will show you that Ramen is in Los Angeles' top 10 dishes we do the best in America, and that Daikokuya is doing it the best, here in LA.
Though there are several in the city, the most notable Daikokuya location is in DTLA, off 1st street. But you'll have to really look for it, as it's the definition of a hole in the wall. Packed to the brim with bar seating in addition to small tables, the wait is usually over an hour to get in to this location. Just another reason why it's winning at the Ramen game in LA.
Here's a local's tip: Show up at 5:30 before the rush hits! Any later and you will hit waits up to over an hour. And if you like a little kick to your ramen, definitely try the spicy miso ramen.
