Indoor & rooftop dining, Southeast Asian fare.

Having a rooftop bar in Los Angeles isn’t much of a gamble, since it rains about 5 times a year, but when those 5 days a year of rain come, a rooftop bar is the last place you would think to post up while you wait for the rain to pass. It wasn’t until we were puddling jumping out of Melrose Pl, trying to get from Alfred’s Coffee to Gracias Madre, that we found the ultimate greenhouse experience at EP/LP.

If you don’t already live in West Hollywood, a trip there can be exhausting, especially in the rain, but we decided to rally to make it to a sip and shop pop up evening hosted by our favorite blog and online store, Cupcakes and Cashmere. As with all Los Angeles driving, a plan to skip traffic or keep yourself busy during traffic has to be set in place especially when the rain slows down traffic to a painful crawl. So our plan was to leave a little after 4pm to miss some traffic and hit up a few of our favorite spots in the area. The plan was to start at Alfred’s Coffee and Tea for a quick coffee, head over to Gracias Madre (remember our blog on it?) for a quick happy hour, then over to our destination, the Cupcakes and Cashmere headquarters!

The first stop was successful, as we treaded in with our wet shoes and barely used umbrellas for a coffee to reenergize ourselves after being in traffic for an hour. As we headed out from Alfred’s to Gracias Madre, soon realizing the rain wasn’t gonna let up and our shoes were getting increasingly soaked, we decided that the extra ten minutes of puddle jumping would be a little too extra for us, and that EP/LP looked like it would provide the perfect covering from the rain.

EP/LP, on the corner of La Cienega and Melrose Ave, has three levels to it: the first level is just a hostess stand, the second is a restaurant called EP, and the third is the rooftop bar LP on one side and the Melrose Rooftop Theater on the other. On clear nights at LP, the rooftop feels likes you are in complete open air, one would never assume their brilliance in creating a roof that was ready to be deployed at the sight of any sprinkles! With a plentiful amount of heaters located throughout the rooftop, it ended up being a cozy and warm respite from the rainy walk.

Happy hour was surprisingly delicious and cheap, with $5 food including fish tacos and vegetable dumplings, both of which were delicious. Beer and wine came in at $5 as well, with two selected specialty cocktails for $8.

So now you know, if, on one of the very few days it rains in Los Angeles, you were planning on going to LP rooftop bar, you can still go and have just as cool of an experience up there.
