The Rooftop Theater That Made Us Fall in Love with LA All Over Again

There are some days that living in LA can make you want to punch a hole in the wall, with all the stresses that I won’t go into (because who really wants to keep talking about all that crap?) and then are days when something magical happens and your love for LA is revived. That’s the kinda relationship LA offers most people. I guess one could say it’s what keeps living in LA so interesting. The night I took my boyfriend to the Melrose Rooftop Theater was one of those magical nights that had me ooing and awing for weeks after and of course, made my love for Los Angeles grow once again.

You’ve heard of Ep/LP (if you haven’t read our blog on it) but if you don’t take a close look once you’ve hit the rooftop bar LP, you’d never know that the rooftop is equally shared with a rooftop theater. As you walk from the entrance from the elevator and stairs, to the right is the host station, expanding into the bar and the left, through a cracked door, you can see Melrose Rooftop Theater. I had been to EP/LP before and had no idea it was the same place! Here’s how we scheduled the night and I think it worked perfectly.

As per the usual, we left a little early to miss some of the traffic. (You all should know by now how difficult it can be to get into West Hollywood) The movie ticket itself is around $27 with tax but in partnership with EP restaurant on the second floor, Melrose Rooftop Theater offers a movie and dinner price for $65. We decided to forego dinner and get to LP early for happy hour to kill some time before the movie started. We were allowed to put our belongings down hours before the show started so we got to save our favorite seats too. The set up is over what seems to be about a half a football field in distance, with some hybrid of a chair/beanbag. You’re given headphones upon arrival and a blanket awaits you at your seat.

Light dinner (like a chicken sandwich) and movie snacks (sour patch kids, popcorn, m&m’s, all the classics) are also available for purchase once the movie is about to start. So whether you purchase the movie and dinner deal, or do what we did, save a few bucks and grab a couple happy hour drinks, chicken sandwiches for dinner, and lots of movie popcorn and snacks for the movie and call the perfect outdoor movie night!!
