DayGlow
Third wave coffee, a term used in coffee shops like Dayglow, may be old news to baristas around the world but does anyone else really know what it means? (We didn't, so we asked and got the scoop.) It's a movement of coffee enthusiasts that produce high quality coffee and consider coffee as an artisanal foodstuff, like wine, rather than a commodity. Though Los Angeles isn't necessarily known for its third wave coffee movement, more and more coffee shops are subscribing to this notion, ditching their automatic espresso machines and joining the cult movement of specialty coffee in LA.
Though Dayglow has brick and mortars in Silverlake and recently West Hollywood, founder Tohm Ifergan has also created a coffee loving community online. Coffee enthusiasts ranging from the "Fanatic" to the "Casual" coffee drinker have access to subscriptions for coffee delivery ranging from 10 days to once every other month. Ifergan teamed up with some of the best roasters in the world to provide their subscribers a carefully curated selection of these world class roasters. In store, you’ll find La Cabra from Denmark and Little Wolf of Massachusetts featured, in addition to a rotating lineup of carefully chosen roasters around the world.
After its success in Silverlake, an additional location opened up in West Hollywood last summer, making Dayglow available now for both Eastsiders and Westsiders alike. The first location in Silverlake is known for it’s millennial pink branding, which was also Dayglow’s original company branding. After a much needed rebrand however, the company colors changed but Silverlake neon pink design stayed the same. The idea of branding each location with a color become an additional creative outlet for Ifergan, pairing the color scheme with the vibe of the location. The West Hollywood location is a more intimate venue, making the tranquility of the mint green option his choice branding.
As Third Wave coffee is considered to be artisanal, so is the the DayGlow experience. Whether it’s a mint green tranquil coffee in West Hollywood or an inspiring millennial pink in Silverlake, DayGlow’s careful curation of product and experience are excellent.
