Eggslut

Breakfast, Grand Central Market.
Chef driven gourmet egg dishes.

I first stumbled onto this place through some friends via text message. You can only imagine my intrigue when I first read the text, "Meet downtown at Eggslut.. 10am." Ummm what? The name sounded interesting enough, so of course, I had to check this place out.

We had no idea the popularity of this place, thus totally unprepared for the length of the line. We were a little too hungry for an hour wait, so we quickly moved onto a different spot in Downtown LA’s Grand Central Market, where Eggslut is located. (No, we didn't think that one through... because no one goes to brunch on Sunday in LA right? Wrong....lesson learned.) We enjoyed brunch elsewhere but the sight of that cheesy, greasy egg sandwich solidified our next visit. With the lesson learned of how busy it was during the weekend, we all decided to squeeze in a visit on a weekday we all had time off.

The line that wraps around the pop up shop makes perfect sense to me, now that I've tasted their food. It's hard to really describe how DELICIOUS their egg sandwiches really are. Whether it's the simple bacon, egg and cheddar cheese, (with a side of the Sriracha mayo of course) or the slightly more complex Fairfax with soft scrambled eggs and chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sirocco mayo, I'm convinced every sandwich there is perfect.

Street parking anywhere downtown can be hard at best. With just the sheer length of the line around Eggslut, it's safest to park in a lot. (Paying $10 for parking in a lot is better than a $65 ticket from an expired meter) Luckily, there is a lot right next to Eggslut, on the corner of 3rd St and Broadway.

If your appetite is anything like mine, I'd suggest getting two sandwiches for two reasons. One: they're just that good. Two: the line is pretty long most days, so it's not as easy to go back and order another one. And trust me.... you WILL want to go back for another one.

Across the street is The Bradbury Building, where a scene in 500 Days of Summer with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt was shot. Also, an architect's dream building and a great spot to explore after you've enjoyed your delicious egg sandwich!
